Radio-marking cranes in Poland
Kranichschutz Deutschland, and the Polish and Spanish Crane Working Groups
Abstract.
Is it true that the line separating populations migrating through the central and western flyways goes to the south from eastern Germany, over Poland? Are some Polish birds migrating to southwestern Spain? Radiotracking in Poland together with aerial search during
winter in Spain will solve this question soon.

As
a result of international cooperation efforts inside the European Crane
Working Group, a joined German-Spanish team of crane researchers went to
Poland in spring 2001. Following Polish application for help to start with colour banding and
radiotracking, during the
meeting held in Verdun in November 2000, Günter Nowald (Kranichinformationszentrum, Gross Mohrdorf) organized this first expedition.
