Radio-marking cranes in Poland, June 2002

Kranichschutz Deutschland, and the Polish and Spanish Crane Working Groups

Between 23th and 26th June 2002 the same German-Spanish team of the former year visited Poland. This time the objective was the the Biebrza National Reserve, in the western part of Poland, to try to colour-band and radio-mark some cranes there. The poor knowledge of the crane territories there and the general unsuccessfullness of the breeding season allowed us to catch the only young we were able to locate.

In the morning of our last day, 26th June, after long unsuccessfull hunts on previous days, we catched the only young crane we saw, at the locality of Stójka
(53° 19.62'N, 22° 36.19'E). It was banded with code Green- Long / White.Red-Blue, and suited with backpack transmitter, frequency 148.275
.
